NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

          National Service Scheme was introduced to mark Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary in 1969, in 37 Universities and 370 colleges to bring youths under an umbrella for the welfare and constructive activities. National Service Scheme has grown across the country with more than 4 lakh volunteers in the wake of 21st century.

          The college has 200 enrolled capacity with two units. The unit performs various social welfare activities. The NSS unit provides students the opportunities to develop qualities of leadership, social awareness, AIDS awareness. The unit directs them to undertake activities, projects, awareness programmes. The unit to sensitize the students, exposes them to various burning issues and social problems. The exposure to the village by seven days residential camps at adopted village organized by the unit. The student volunteers are taught life skills, practical guide and awareness about their rights and duties. They are oriented towards the social cause, and their participation in nation building.

The units have adopted one villages i.e., Kharsai, Tal- Mhasala. Mr. Sumit Chavan and Dr. Mr. Sanjay Bendre are working as programme officer.

Composition of Department

NSS unit: – There are two units of 100 volunteers each.

N.S.S Committee: –

          The overall function of the NSS committees at the college level is to advice on the various activities of the NSS unit based on the felt needs of the students and the community. The NSS Committee should discuss the matters pertaining to Programme / Projects to be implemented, review of the activities undertaken, future plan, approve the expenditure incurred on various programmes from time to time, the purchase/ disposal of dead stock items, etc.

          The college NSS Unit is expected to work under the guidance of the Principal who shall form an N.S.S committee to provide direction to the NSS activities and also appoint a Programme Officer- selected from the members of the faculty- as executive head of the College NSS Unit. The Programme Officer is expected to motivate the student youth to understand the value of NSS. The overall functions of NSS Programme Officer are to help the students to plan, implement and evaluate the activities of NSS under his/her charge and give proper guidance and directions to the student volunteers. To discharge his/her obligation under NSS Programme the Programme Officer plays the role of an Organizer, an educator, a Coordinator, a supervisor, an administrator, and as public relation officer.

          Programme Officer is expected to attend an Orientation Course of 10 days within· 3 months of his/her appointment. The Programme Officer must undergo the orientation course within one year of the date of appointment in case the orientation is not conducted in the stipulated period of 3 months. The Programme Officer should be appointed at least for a period of 3 consecutive years· in first instance. However, this period is reduced/extendable, on the review of his/her performance by Principal and NSS Programme Coordinator. College NSS Unit headed by the NSS Programme Officer under the guidance of the Principal. One Programme Officer will be incharge of one unit only.

          A number of extension activities to inculcate the mind-set to serve the society among students during their receptive age are conducted through NSS. The institute is bound to respond to nation’s calls through extension activities such as

  • Health Check-up Camps
  • Voter awareness programs:
  • World population day
  • Disaster management
  • AIDs Awareness Campaigning

The vision is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for the social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

MISSION

The National Service Scheme has been functioning with the motto “NOT ME BUT YOU” in view of making the youth inspired in service of the people and hence NSS Aims Education through Community Service and Community Service through Education.
